Kiruna - The Limits of Observation

Bachelor thesis Kiruna – The Limits of Observation deals stylized observation method used in documentary film focussing on production of bachelor movie Kiruna 2.0 directed by Greta Stocklassa. The first part of thesis deals term stylized observation and the Nichols’ diagram of relationship of fiction and nonfiction. Five movies (Play, Involuntary, Turist, Fire at Sea, Into the Clouds We Gaze) lying on the border between fiction and nonfiction are discussed, classified based on their characteristics and placed in the modified diagram prepared by author. Second part describes the preparation and production of the bachelor movie Kiruna 2.0, it describes decisions and choices author had to make and dealt with during filming. Advantages and limits together with formal ethical aspects of observation are then discussed based on opinions of other directors and authors’ experiences. Last part is a brief manual for other future directors who will decide to use observation in their movies.
The image of italian films in czechoslovak film journals in years 1965-1975

This diploma thesis - The image of Italian films in Czechoslovak film journals in years 1965- 1975 is devoted to the manner of display, presentation and evaluation of Italian cinematography in the magazines Kino and Film a doba. The first part of this work describes the social and political environment in Czechoslovakia and in Italy, with an emphasis on culture, film and print media. The attention is focused on the end of the 1960's, when in Czechoslovakia the totalitarian political development was strengthened after an effort to democratize society, whilst in Italy the democratic development of the capitalist society was maintained, despite the pressures of the left-wing forces. The analytical part of the thesis uses qualitative methods and examines the contents of articles in the chosen periodicals. It follows the arguments of film publicists and critics and reveals how the social atmosphere and movements was portrayed by Italian filmmakers. The work focuses on analyzing the articles about Italian movies of different genres and styles, to which film themes was given more space, how was reviewed the work of filmmakers and actors and how was characterized the Italian cinema in general. In this thesis I focused on professional life and creative work of Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro. His lifelong journey as the creator of the image, understanding the energy of colors and color shades, light and shadow, their essential meaning and harmony in his works. Through these two major means of expression in film he tries to represent the emotions and the spirits of the characters in the story.
The Mask and Face of Comedy a´la Italy

The aim of this work was to try to look at the fertile period of the Italian cinema of the sixties a different perspective - through the genre of comedy Italian style. Focus on those who formed parallel to the greats, and who, often deservedly, disappearing into the shadows. Nevertheless, among the smaller ones can find authors stylish and expressive works. The fact that I finally got to the territory of the greats is nothing surprising genre of comedy Italian style is so broad that it can fit so many things and often handles the same topics as they only told in a lighter vein. Try to purely Italian in context trace its specificity, and create an outline for better orientation in the territory where lions still live.
